Stefan managed to win the European Junior Championships in 1980 and 82. In 1985 Stefan won his first professio-nal grand slam tournament, the Australian Open. The next time the tournament was held, in 1987, he repeated as champion.

Stefan was one of 5 players to compete in last three Olympics before Atlanta96 He was Bronze medalist at 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul in singles and doubles, won gold medal in 84 Olympics in Los Angeles. He also held the Swe-dish flag in opening ce-remonies in Barcelona Olympics 92. Stefan has been a member of Swedish Davis Cup team since 1985.

Stefans last year on the tennis tour in 1996 was one year of celebrations around the world. The audience loved him everywhere and they homaged him when he lost for the last time in that tournament, because they knew he would never come back again. The last tournament he played was "Stockholm Open", there he became enormous homages from the home audience. Unfortunatelly couldnt he manage a victory in that tournament. The last Davis Cup match he played was in late 1996 when Sweden lost to France in a "hair-raising" final in Malm in south Sweden. Unfortunatelly Stefan who was the man to round off his incredible ca-reer in front of his home audience got injured in the first match of the final, so he spent the rest of the final on the leaderbench.

Career Highlights:
Stefan won 41 single titles and 18 double titles during his 14 years on the pro-fessional tennis tour. From that 41 single titles are 6 so-called "grand slams".
